Ok, so this track hasn’t officially been released by Kanye West & Co. yet, but I came across it via Pitchfork.com and figured I should spread the word as much as possible about this jam. Seemingly coming out of nowhere, “Lost In The World” is one of a few “confirmed” songs to have been leaked from his upcoming currently-untitled album. The only thing that can be confirmed about this track is that is was created by Kanye West and Justin Vernon, sampling his hit “Woods” by Bon Iver.
Oddly enough, I first heard about this track only through the descriptions given by Bon Iver front-man Justin Vernon in a recent interview on Pitchfork.com [Check it out here] Here is a little description given by Vernon about the track and his accounts with Kanye West from Ye’s Hawaii recording retreat he embarked on a few months ago:
“…he [Kanye] plays me the track and it sounds exactly like how you want it to sound: forward moving, interesting, light-hearted, heavy-hearted, fucking incredible sounding jam. It was kind of bare so I added some choir-sounding stuff and then thicked out the samples with my voice. That whole first week I was there we worked on the “Woods” song, which is called “Lost in the World”. We were just eating breakfast and listening to the song on the speakers and he’s like, “Fuck, this is going to be the festival closer.” I was like, “Yeah, cool.” It kind of freaked me out.”
Not too bad from the Wisconsin native who is better known for his soft whisper-esque singing echoing the acousitc instrumentals. Later on in the Pitchfork interview Vernon goes on to describe his encounters with the other guest artists escaping on the Kanye retreat including A-Trak, Rick Ross, and John Legend:
“I was literally in the back room rolling a spliff with Rick Ross talking about what to do on the next part of a song. It was astonishing.”
I hope this interview and track will be only a preview of what Mr. West has in store for the world with the un-named album releasing on an un-official date.
